Abruzzo: travel in every season

Abruzzo: cosa visitare

Abruzzo: travel here in any season and stay at Il Magnolia to experience unknown Italy.

Abruzzo is a land to discover, yet, where the sea meets the mountains, and the ancient arts of the inland villages embrace the modernity of the coast.

The beauty of this region is that in every season, you will find something to admire. If we had to choose one word to describe it, we would probably opt for "variety."
In Abruzzo, we have an infinite variety of beaches, from sandy, fine and golden ones like in Francavilla al mare, to the more hidden, rocky and wild ones of the
Trabocchi coast.
We have a great variety of scenery too. The mountain landscapes change with every season. There, it's possible to ski, snowshoe, and venture on snowmobiles in Winter or get lost in the fairytale-like woods in Autumn.  There you can admire the changing foliage from green in Springtime to warm shades of yellow, red, and orange in Autumn. In our woods, native fauna freely coexist: we are talking about the Abruzzo Chamois, the Marsican Brown Bear, Apennine Wolves, or Deer, which, for example, can be encountered undisturbed in the narrow streets of some villages, such as Villetta Barrea, nicknamed the Village of Deer.

Abruzzo in spring

In spring, you can discover surprising waterfalls and lush greenery, moving from a backdrop of snowy expanses to flowering meadows, such as the infinite and evocative fields of crocuses in Campo Imperatore. In addition to nature, you can visit ancient castles such as Rocca Calascio, probably the most famous, and made famous thanks to several international film sets. One we think is even more magical is the Rocca Scalegna one, built on a rock spur. You can visit others with sea views as well, like the Aragonese one in Ortona. You can wander through hilltop villages among the most beautiful in Italy, such as Pescocostanzo, Santo Stefano di Sessanio, or Civitella del Tronto, where time seems to have stopped.

Abruzzo in summer

In summer, in addition to the beach, you may want to delve into the coolness of the national parks and nature reserves, get lost in caves among stalagmites, stalactites, and underground rivers, or cross by canoe Italy's cleanest river, the Tirino. With its clear and crystalline waters and green "sedanina" seabeds, there you can smell the Mediterranean scrub made of oleanders, pines, and brooms. Or you can escape the summer heat by going to one of the many Abruzo's lakes, such as the heart-shaped one of Scanno.

Besides relaxing in nature, you can also immerse yourself in local culture, art, and traditions, which vary a lot from village to village and are passed down from generation to generation.

And if you want to alternate rest with exciting and unforgettable experiences, you can also choose to dedicate some days of your vacation to one of the extreme sports available in Abruzzo. You can choose among rafting on the Aventino river, canyoning excursions in Palena, paragliding or launching on the zipline to discover the thrill of flying at high speed in Pacentro, and you admire the Maiella valleys below. Or you can opt for the adrenaline-pumping experience of Bungee Jumping on the bridge of Salle near Pescara.

When clients ask us for suggestions, there are many choices, it depends on what you love to do!
We hope to have piqued your curiosity, or to have been an inspiration for your next stop in Abruzzo, and that you will soon set off to explore our land with enthusiasm, to appreciate and love it just as we do.

Happy travels!
